A little because being stuck at home made it extremely difficult to be creative, and a little because I found myself in a situation where my ambition outgrew my skill.

I’ve abandoned several projects because I simply could not get them where I wanted. However things are beginning to look up.

My next release – “Until Sunrise” is going live tomorrow and I am currently working on several more.

Frostgate

I am finally done with the composing stage and moving on to sound engineering. I am trying a new workflow which is a lot more structured, and I really like it (so far). The idea is quite simple – to finish writing all the musical content before moving on to sound design.

I did my best to solve the problems, fill up the frequencies and make musical ideas flow and evolve at the lowest level possible – the midi. This was quite challenging and forced me to keep close attention to the reason and the purpose for every single note. At this stage I have stayed away from using effects, EQs, compressors or reverbs unless it was necessary to create a particular sound. I did my best to create a good mix by only using midi, velocities, modulation, stereo separation and instrument diversity.

So, now I have bounced all the midi tracks to audio and have started working on the “sound” part. One of my biggest challenges is probably going to be compression. This track relies heavily on dynamics to control which elements are in focus, so I am going to have to be very careful with compressors. I am hoping to be able to set a release date soon, but I am not yet ready to commit to a deadline.

Frostgate

I am now working on the second song, which is actually pretty far along. I am almost done writing all the main parts and I am about to move on to sound design.

This song will be the second of six total, that I am currently planning for this particular project. I am hitting many roadblocks on the way as I simply don’t know how to create the sounds that I want. Sometimes i spend a whole day working on a part that I end up throwing out the next day.

My main goal for “On the Edge” was to complete and release it. For this one I am setting the bar a little higher.
